“Whenever I feel like giving up, I don’t…I overcome.” Xavyer Zeigler
Keep this in mind whenever you find yourself at the point of giving up on someone or something. When you choose to give up, that is when you lose out of having the chance to achieve your goals and dreams. When you decide to get up and overcome the obstacles that are in your way, you are able to power through and find a way to make things happen in your life.
I am often reminded in my journey that overcoming something requires time, inner strength, and a good support system. I have found that to be true because there is no timetable on how it should take to overcome something, plus if you are going to ever overcome any obstacle, it must come from the determination that exists inside of you and people who will be by your side. This was the case when I lost Speranza, my first child, at 17 weeks.
In March 2011, I remember sitting in the hospital room with my wife and we were just shell-shocked because the moment was surreal. I remember our doctor and nurse coming to us and telling us what caused the miscarriage and it was heart-breaking because nobody identified the issue prior to this. It was hard on both of us, and we even thought about whether or not we should do this again.
I look at my wife and told her that it was not going to be a matter of if, but a matter of when we would be parents again. It took us five months to truly deal with the loss of Speranza and understand that it was possible to try again having the knowledge to get through this situation. In August 2011, we found out that we were going to have another chance at being parents again. With the help of the new information, our Italian translator, Italian doctors, and people supporting us, we were able to overcome the major obstacle that caused us to lose Speranza in order to give birth to our second child, Bordeaux, who came out healthy and happy. We learned through our experience that in order for us to become parents to a healthy child, we had to overcome our obstacles versus giving up.
You can overcome your obstacles as long as you are willing to get up, fight for what you want, and stick with the plan for as long as it takes. Overcoming something is never easy on your own, but that is why you want to have a good support group to have your back and keep you on track. The moment you give up is when it is all over. Let’s remember that nothing ever comes in life by you quitting on obstacles; it comes by you overcoming the obstacles.
Will you quit or will you overcome what stands in your way of achieving success?
