Can You Judge A Book By Its Covers?

“Never judge book by its covers unless you are willing to read the pages between them.” Michael J. Fite

Keep this in mind whenever you think you know a person’s situation from simply what you see. When you judge only by what you can see, you wind up creating an easy plus, but a hard minus at the same time. On one hand, you may get an early preview of what you need to know, but on the other hand, you miss out on getting to know the person or thing that may prove to be valuable in your life. When you decide to get to know someone or something through listening, learning, and understanding,  you gain a better feel of that person or thing, and there is a chance that you gain someone or something that may be valuable to your life.

My mother always tell me that I have always been the person who will befriend anyone regardless of the situation. When I was in basic training, I ran across a person whom I thought was insane for going through this because it always seemed like she stuck the anger of the instructors. She continued to draw the anger of some of our classmates in specialized training for some strange reason that was beyond me.

Instead of judging her by the cover that was painted by others, I got the chance to know and understand her story. I would say that she was very inspirational to me when I was going through training because she withstood a lot and still gave it her all regardless of what was going on. That moment allowed for me to gain a great and funny friend that I am proud to still call my great and funny friend today.

You can learn a lot about people and things as long as you are willing to go beyond what the eyes and the covers show you. When you go inside and deeper, you will find something that can possibly enhance your knowledge and your worth. Let’s remember that you will never know what a person or thing is about by reading only the covers on the outside; you have to start with page one by listening, learning, and understanding so that you can know that someone or something that can change your life for the better.

  1. Great post, I definitely agree that one should not judge a book by its cover. It’s certainly what is on the inside that matters. I look forward to future post, check mine out when you get the chance 🙂
