What Do You Muse About?

“I am my own muse.” -Unknown

Keep this in mind about your power to muse.

What Is A Muse?

According to Merriam-Webster, to muse means:

  • to think about something carefully or thoroughly

  • to think or say (something) in a thoughtful way

We all at some point have decided to muse about someone or something. Whenever we muse, we process our feelings and thoughts. Those feelings and thoughts are translated into either words and or actions by us. Ultimately, our muse becomes a part of our identities.

Kobe Bryant’s Muse

I want you to take at Kobe Bryant as he decided to muse about various points in his life.

Kobe decided to muse about how he cannot process failure in his brain because it is worse than death. In seeing his accomplishments in the game of basketball, he did not accept being a loser regardless of the score. In his mind, he did not accept failure, and that reflected in his actions on the court and in his life.

Kobe decided to muse about how he can let go of himself during a game and loving it regardless of what was going on in his life. The idea of being carefree and just taking out his opponents without remorse served to be an awesome experience for him. He was allowed to play basketball the way he felt mentally, and it reflected in how he dominated his opponents and won basketball games.

Kobe decided to muse about his Achilles tendon injury that changed his career. For a career that featured a lot of highs, he was forced to think that it could all end because of an injury. Such a moment can cause anyone to think about their career and how they want to finish. He thought that moment could be it, but he did not want to go out like that, and he obviously wrapped up his career with a 60 point game and a win for the Los Angeles Lakers.

For you, I encourage you to simply muse and let it reflect in all that you do mentally, verbally, and physically. Whatever you decide muse about, let it guide you towards saying and doing positive things that can make you and the world around you better. Let’s remember that you can muse about anything, but make sure it reflects who and what you are through your words and actions.

I have two questions to ask you, and please feel free to answer and comment below:

  1. What have you mused about recently?
  2. How has that muse affected your words and/or actions?

  1. For the past year or so I have been musing about the way my upbringing affected the way I raised my children. I have mused about the great things I learned from my mother, and the mistakes I copied from my father. I’ve talking these matters over with my children, and they don’t feel I was at fault. I disagree, but going through this process is freeing me from a burden that I’ve carried for many years. None of us are perfect parents, and I’m working on forgiving myself. I feel happier than I have for a long time.
Thank you for a great post.
