What Are Five Tools Required For A Successful Resolution In 2018?

“The new year is a golden opportunity to be a new you, but if you are constantly living in last year, then you will continue to be the old you.” -Michael J. Fite

Keep this in mind about the new year.

A new year has arrived and it is a chance for you to accomplish something new or become better at something. Whatever you choose to do, you want to make sure that you are able to achieve whatever goals you set forth for yourself.

My goal is to encourage you to set and keep a resolution for this upcoming year. In order to help you make it happen, I will share with you some stats and give you five tools that are instrumental in having a successful resolution in 2018.

Now it is time to look at some things and get the new year off to a good start.

What are the percentages when it comes to New Year’s Resolutions?

Thanks to Statistic Brain, I want to share with you some statistics about New Year’s Resolutions:

The first stat that I want to share with you is the percentages of New Year’s Resolutions from 2017:

Percent of Americans who usually make New Year’s Resolutions

41 %

Percent of Americans who infrequently make New Year’s Resolutions

17 %

Percent of Americans who absolutely never make New Year’s Resolutions

42 %

I want to give you three facts based on this data set:

  • If you absolutely never make New Year’s Resolutions, you can never know what you can accomplish in the New Year without setting one.

  • If you infrequently make New Year’s Resolutions, it is difficult to find consistency and momentum when you are inconsistent with your resolutions.

  • If you are making New Year’s Resolutions usually, you are giving yourself a chance to set and achieve something.

To have a chance to be successful, making a resolution is half of the battle. The rest of the battle comes down to being consistent and sticking to your plan.

What is the success rate of achieving a New Year’s Resolution?

Thanks to Statistic Brain again, I want to give you another set of stats concerning the success rate of achieving a resolution:

Percent of people who felt they were successful in achieving their resolution

9.2 %

Percent who have infrequent success

48.4 %

Percent who never succeed and fail on their resolution each year

42.4 %

I want to give you three more facts to explain why a combined 90.8% of people have either failed or experienced infrequent success:

  1. If you are looking and say the odds are against you to be successful in making and keeping a resolution.

    • Statistic Brain wants you know that if you do go ahead and make a resolution, you will be 10 times more likely to attain your goals than those who do not make any resolutions. This reminds you that just by coming up with a resolution, you increase your chances of becoming successful in making something happen for the new year.
  2. If you have never succeeded and failed on your resolution each year, you or someone else you are allowing are doing one of three things.

    • Making a resolution that is complex.
    • Sabotaging your resolutions with negativity.
    • Not capable of dealing with and overcoming adversity or challenges.
  3. If you have had infrequent success with your resolutions, you are not being consistent with setting up and doing the things that will make you successful for any resolution.

    • If you do not have a good plan and resources in place, it will be tough on you to succeed.
    • If you are inconsistent with staying with the plan or using your resources, you cannot expect to have consistent success.

If you are successful in achieving your resolutions, it shows that you have what it takes to achieve any resolution that you make.

    • Thank you for your comment and insight My Adventure Passport! It does become hard to make and keep a resolution over time if we are not prepared with the right tools and resources. If a person learns to have the right resources and utilize them accordingly, they can achieve their resolutions!
