“Become obsessed about the things you want otherwise you are going to spend a lifetime being obsessed with making up excuses as to why you didn’t get the life you wanted.” -Grant Cardone
Keep this in mind whenever you are faced with how you choose to spend your obsession.
What is an obsession?
Merriam-Webster defines an obsession as:
-
A state in which someone thinks about someone or something constantly or frequently especially in a way that is not normal.
-
Someone or something that a person thinks about constantly or frequently.
-
An activity that someone is very interested in or spends a lot of time doing.
Your obsession can be anything you want or desire. It can become good or bad depending on what is your obsession and how you spend your time going about it.
What are your options when it comes your obsessions?
When it comes to your obsessions, you have only two choices when it comes to getting it
- Make excuses as to why you cannot not get it.
- Succeed and do what it takes to get it.
Let’s dig a little deeper into your options.
Option #1: Make excuses as to why you cannot get it.
This option is selected whenever it seems like an obsession is the following:
- The obsession becomes too hard to accomplish or achieve.
- The obsession becomes boring or time-consuming.
- The obsession seems unrealistic or impossible to try.
Whenever fears, doubts, and impatience creep into an obsession, it can cause all of the above. It also can cause a person to give up an obsession or not even try a new obsession. When this happens, the excuses come out in full force.
If you let this happen, excuse making becomes your new obsession that prevents you from accomplishing or achieving your goals and dreams.
Option #2: Succeed and do what it takes to get it.
This option is selected whenever it seems like an obsession is the following:
- The obsession becomes routine and easy over time.
- The obsession comes with a roadmap and things in place.
- The obsession seems realistic and possible to try.
When your mind is focused on success and winning during an obsession, nothing or nobody can get in the way of letting the all of the above happen. It can cause a person to pick up the momentum necessary to power through obstacles and become successful. When this happens, the confidence comes out in full force.
If you let this happen, taking action becomes your new obsession that makes it possible for you to accomplish your goals and dreams.
What option will you choose when it comes to your obsession?
After seeing the options, the choice is up to you when it comes to your obsession. Every obsession is different, so you must treat each obsession as such. The two things that remain the same in each obsession that you have are you and the choices. Whatever you decide do about your obsession, you must live with the consequences and effects that come from it.
I encourage you give thought to your obsessions and determine what you want to do about them. Your time is very valuable and it does not make any sense for you to waste time on an obsession that you are not going to put your best effort into. It also does not make sense for you to waste time on an obsession that is not going to make you or your life better in the long run. Let’s remember that everyone has an obsession in life, but in order to achieve the obsessions that you want, you need to take action instead of making excuses.
