I want to start off with this quote from Flora Whittemore:
“The doors we open and close each day decide the lives we live.” -Flora Whittemore
Keep this in mind whenever you wonder how did you wind up living the life that you are living.
In your life, you have encountered many doors where you have to make one of the three following choices below:
- Open and go through the door.
- Open and close the door.
- Never open the door.
Whatever choice you make regarding the doors will cause a different set of doors to appear in front of you where you have to repeat the same process over and over until your life is over.
If you are needing help understanding your various doors and how to face them, I want to offer you some questions to help you out. If you know of someone else who is struggling with the doors that they face, I encourage you to read and share this with the person who will need to hear this.
Why do you have the current door in front of you?
The reason why you have the doors you do will vary depending on what you do with them. Here is one major fact that you need to know about your current door:
- The current door that you face are in front of you due to the decision you made regarding the previous door that was in front of you.
It is important to know that your decisions will impact what door you will face next because if you do not know this, you will go about life blaming other people for the doors that exists and results that come from your decisions about the doors.
Can you blame someone else for the decisions you make about your doors?
Although it may be easy to blame someone else for the decisions you make about the doors you face, I want to give you three more facts to consider:
- Although people can suggest and advise, nobody can make you take action on the doors that you face.
- Nobody else can take action on the doors that you face but yourself.
- When everything is set and done, people will only blame you for the decisions that you have taken about the doors that you face.
As you can see, it becomes difficult to blame other people for what you do about the doors that you face.
What will happen when you take action on the current door that is in front of you?
I want to give you three additional facts to consider about taking action on the current door that is in front of you right now:
- Taking action on the door in front of you is unavoidable because you must make a choice.
- The action that you take with the door will come with either have short or long-term consequences.
- Once you have made the choice with the current door, a new door will appear to where you must make a decision.
The door you have at the moment is awaiting your decision.
If you need some help with the door, then this next question will give you some help.
What should you do with the door that is in front of you right now?
With the decision totally up to you, I will again give you your three options and share the pros and cons. Although there is no way of knowing what will happen, knowing the pros and cons will help you decide which option is best for you in terms of dealing with the door that is front of you right now.
Option #1: Open and go through the door.
When you choose to open and go through the door, you are accepting what you are seeing enough to walk through and accept what comes from it.
- Pro: You are taking a chance on the opportunity that is in front of you.
- Con: There are no promises that it will work out in your favor.
Option #2: Open and close the door.
When you choose to open and close the door, you may be looking at what is in front of you when you open the door, but choose to close it because it may not be right for you.
- Pro: You are evaluating and preventing yourself from possibly walking through and making a mistake.
- Con: You may have missed out on a potential opportunity that may not present itself again.
Option #3: Never open the door and move on.
When you choose to never open the door, you may not be prepared to accept what is on the other side of the door and decide to go on to the next door.
- Pro: You saving yourself from seeing and exploring whatever is behind that door.
- Con: You will never know and possibly miss out on whatever is behind that door.
With the pros and cons of your three options highlighted, the best decision you can make is the one that you are willing to live with. Let’s remember that once you make the decision about your door, understand that just like an “as-is” sale, it becomes final with no refunds.
In the question section, I want you to give some serious thought to the questions above and share your answers and comments below. Your answers and insight can help yourself and other people understand that the doors that you face in you life requires you to make decisions that will result in the life that you have lived, is living, and will live.
Michael great perspective! I loved this share. End of the day we always have choices and whatever choice we make or made good or bad I feel it’s best to always be kind to ourselves and know tommorrow is another day to do better.😉😀

Thank you for your comment and insight Mommywood! I love the fact that you pointed out that you feel it’s best to always be kind to ourselves and know tomorrow is another day to do better because the doors will keep coming just like the chances to make good decisions about them.

Quite inspiring Michael. 🙂
I personally would go with the option of opening the door and going through it, only to not to regret later the’only if I had walked through that door’ thought.

Thank you for your comment and insight Aditi! I think that opening the door and going through it provides a lot of unknowns and there will be times where you may have regrets about it. Luckily for you, there will always be another door that can possibly make you forget about regretting the previous door.
